easter

The 2021 Easter celebrations will also be remembered for keeping away from our loved ones and finding ways to hit the fun button at home. Although it seems we’re living 2020 all over again, there is no reason to fall into despair.

Thanks to technology, spending the day around four walls doesn’t necessarily mean being cut off from the world. And let’s be honest – home is where the heart is! So, keeping the family spirit alive can start from your living room. We’ve collated some funky ways to celebrate Easter COVID-style to ensure the fun factor doesn’t dim on this special day.

HAVE EASTER LUNCH WITH THE LOVED ONES

Social distancing might not allow us to mingle with the extended family, but that doesn’t mean we have to cut all communication. Place a tablet or laptop at the head of the table when all the food is served, hit the call button and chat away the hours whilst enjoying good food and company. Pro tip: take screenshots of each other to keep in your family memoirs. They will make an epic Easter card for 2022!

INDULGE IN SOME DIY EASTER DECORATIONS

No need to spend money on fancy rabbit statues and golden eggs – make them yourself! Re-use materials such as toilet rolls, cereal boxes and water bottles. Purchase some paint and let the artistic fun begin! They could make really cute presents for any nieces or nephews too! If there are kids in the house, get them involved by creating a competition of who can come up with the coolest decoration.

WATCH A LIVESTREAM CHURCH SERVICE

Church services have been suspended because of covid, however the Church of Malta through the assistance of local TV stations has ensured all the devotees can still follow the Easter Vigil liturgy on their home TVs as well as online.

CREATE AN ALTERNATIVE, INDOOR EASTER HUNT

Hiding hard-boiled eggs might not be so enticing, especially if the kids are a bit grown up. Purchase inexpensive trinkets or place small change in jewellery boxes to see who manages to get his hand on the most of them.

PUT ON THE OUTFIT YOU PURCHASED

Attending one of Malta’s Easter processions feels like a feast in itself and many of us usually take our credit cards out to add a new garment to our wardrobe, to flaunt during the Easter outing. There might not be any processions this year, but who said we can’t dress for the occasion anyway? Looking great is the key to feeling great. Staying in your PJs will only put a damper on your spirit. So, give your hair a good comb and put on a garment from the latest spring/summer styles.

GO FOR A DRIVE

Make sure you meet the Health Authority’s group guidelines and hit the road for some sunshine. Take a tour round Żurrieq or take the lane to Rabat and Dingli. Keep the windows down so you can enjoy some outdoor air.
